Development
Background
Agriculture is the backbone of the Malawian economy. About 80% of the population of Malawi depends on farming for their livelihood. In Dzuwa village, more than 95% are subsistence farmers. JTW is committed to working with the people of Dzuwa village to maximize their productivity and grow the economy.
Our Strategy
JTW has moved ahead with plans to:
- Establishing cooperatives for the local farmers in Dzuwa village
- Providing training to farmers
- Providing loans (in terms of seed & fertilizer, and farming equipment)
Irrigation Farming
JTW also plans to set up irrigation farming & training programs for the people of Dzuwa village. We believe that irrigation farming shall enable the community to grow food and cash crops two or three times a year, which will in turn exponentially maximize their crop production.
Demonstration Gardens
JTW shall also set up demonstration gardens, which with the goal of teaching/educating the people of Dzuwa on modern farming techniques and irrigation farming in general.
Cassava Project
JTW will cultivate 6 acres of land to grow cassava. The cassava will be grown in order to provide a reliable food source for the people of Dzuwa as well as be sold at the local mark
